The Modis Solution: Training CD eases transition to Windows environment

Casey needed training assistance for their employees following their recent operating system upgrade to Microsoft Windows and Outlook. The foundation’s employees work in 27 locations and had varying levels of experience with Windows.

After evaluating Casey's needs and existing materials, WASSER built a computer-based training (CBT) tool. Our instructional designers developed the content and developers produced a CD that employees at the foundation’s locations could use on their own schedule.

WASSER designed the CD to accommodate all levels of experience with Windows. Upon inserting the CD, a video is the first thing that employees saw. The video featured a Casey executive, who explained the purpose of the CD and offered advice on where to get help and how to get started. More Windows savvy users could skip the video, as well as any portions of the training that covered material they already knew. To assure Casey that all employees mastered the main concepts, each section of the program ended with a quick quiz. Experienced computer users could skip past each lesson and go directly to the quizzes, and less experienced users were offered hints to help them succeed.

The CD program succeeded in getting the new users up to speed as it was easy to navigate, and included a glossary and search tool for additional assistance. And besides simply teaching employees how to use their new Windows computers, WASSER Studios created a printed cheat sheet that focused on e-mail etiquette, legal issues, and other hints.

Casey’s employees gained the knowledge they needed to be productive using their Windows computers. WASSER Studios received the Society of Technical Communicators Puget Sound Chapter 1998 Distinguished Award for Tutorial & Training and nomination for international recognition for their work.

The Modis Solution: Assisting Public Service division with SAP implementation

San Antonio’s City Public Service division hired Modis to provide project management and general SAP consultants for two major SAP implementations.

Modis project managers directed the SAP/Business Information Warehouse sizing effort for CPS. Our duties for this two-year project included:

• Coordinating vendor meetings and facilitated technical presentations on behalf of CPS.
• Drafting the SAP infrastructure request for proposal, later evaluated responses
• Providing guidance in designing the performance and recoverability features for the multi-terabyte CPS SAP/BW production instances.
• Designing transport management procedures and managed transport importation.
• Managing initial Basis Team and guided all SAP R/3 and BW software installations.
• Managing installation of the CCS and FERC Industry Solutions.
• Managing the installation and upgrade of the SAP BW package.
• Designing initial authorizations configuration for SAP and BW project teams.
• Rolling out SAPGUI to more than 1,800 CPS users.
• Installing Internet transaction server components.
• Designing and held a series of technical presentations for the CPS user community.
• Coordinating initial database management, administration tasks on database servers.
• Managing Support Package application process for entire BW and SAP landscape, including Conflict Resolution Transports for the IS-U/CCS Add-On.
• Managing initial SAP and OSS User ID administration tasks for entire project team as well as Backup and Recovery operations.
• Assisting in the process of upgrading IS-U/CCS.

The State of Iowa’s Department of Human Services is charged with helping both individuals and families enjoy safe, stable, healthy lives by maximizing the resources they receive from public and private sources.

Modis has supported numerous projects for the State of Iowa, including the following:
